Google has announced the next generation Google Glass – called the Glass Enterprise 2. The improvements show the evolution of the device from the Original Glass through to the Glass Enterprise launched in 2017. Changes to the device improve its usability for firms while a reduced price looks set to expand its user base.

Google has announced details of the new Google Glass – called Glass Enterprise Edition 2. As we expected the new model is an evolution on the first generation of the business-focused Glass – the Glass Enterprise Edition. The new Enterprise Edition 2 is aimed only at business customers with a focus on providing efficiency and to help workers improve productivity. The new unit will cost US$999, down US$500 from the previous model.

To achieve the expected gains in productivity, Google has improved some of the basic specs of the unit. Glass Enterprise 2 has an up-rated camera from 5 MP to 8 MP, and is built on the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR1 platform featuring a 1.7 GHz quad-core processor designed specifically for virtual and augmented reality devices. The battery is an improved 820 mAh up from 780 mAh and comes ready for fast charging in a move that builds on criticism of the first Glass that had a pathetic 570 mAh battery. It also sports 32 GB (the same as the first gen.) of storage and 3 GB of RAM, up from 2 GB. Externally, it also has two LED lights, a power LED and a camera indicator on the front so people around wearers will know when the camera is on.

It seems that at the moment only Google and Microsoft, with their HoloLens 2, are intent on cracking this kind of wearable productive tech. It’s clearly a field neither company are keen on giving up on and the improvements made to the Glass Enterprise 2 imply that Google is working hard to adjust its product to the demand of business.
